the small isles

Thursday, 19 April 2012

Some photos from my island hopping holiday in Scotland last week. We visited Rum, Eigg and Muck, and had a glorious day in Glasgow staying at our old apartment and visiting all the places we used to go, drinking chemex coffee and wandering along the Kelvin. We spent a lot of time on trains and ferries, reading, reflecting, relaxing. On Eigg we spent the day walking miles across the island from our bothy to the shop and back, stopping halfway for scones and tea with locals and admiring their green initiatives. On Rum we stayed in a hostel housed within a castle that was once a pleasure palace, and where all the interiors have been left in tact. It was as if the owners had just walked out the front door one day, leaving all their possessions behind. Sadly it is now falling down faster than it can be fixed and this summer will be it's last season open to the public.
